Moving Checklist
Before You Move
Start planning your move well in advance to minimize last-minute stress. Here's how:
- Create a moving binder to keep track of quotes, receipts, and an inventory of all items.
- Sort through your belongings and decide what to keep, sell, donate, or throw away.
- Begin packing non-essential items and labeling boxes with contents and their designated room.
- Change your address with the postal service, and notify important parties like banks and utility companies.
- Arrange for a moving company or rental truck, and schedule disconnect times for utilities at your old home and connect times for your new one.
Moving Day
- Prepare an essentials box with items you'll need immediately upon arrival at your new home, like toiletries, chargers, and a change of clothes.
- Take pictures of your empty old home and new home for documentation.
- Do a final walkthrough of your old home to ensure nothing is left behind.
- Ensure that all utilities are functioning in your new home, and begin unpacking essentials.
After You Move
- Unpack systematically, starting with essential items and gradually moving to less critical items.
- Check all boxes and furniture for damage and report any issues to the moving company if necessary.
- Register with local services such as healthcare, schools, and municipal services.
- Update your driver's license and vehicle registration, if necessary.
- Meet your neighbors and explore your new community.
